About the Department
Norristown Weed and Seed focuses on community-driven prevention, while it attacks the underlying roots that contribute to crime, such as underemployment, lack of a quality education and widespread poverty.
The initiative's name describes a dual strategy: to "weed out" violent offenders through intensive law enforcement and prosecution efforts, and to "seed" Norristown with prevention, intervention, treatment and revitalization services. It's hard to sum up Weed and Seed in one or two sentences because the program mobilizes so many various resources in a comprehensive and coordinated effort to control drugs, crime and improve the quality of life in Norristown.
Mission
The Norristown Weed and Seed Program will develop and implement a strategic plan to revitalize Norristown, by identifying existing resources and creating new ones where necessary, improving communications, developing a safe, healthy environment, improving the economic standard of living and community image, and creating partnerships to meet these goals.
Vision
The vision of Norristown Weed and Seed is to achieve safe, stable, and thriving neighborhoods with a goal of improving quality of life in the surroundings in which we live, worship, work, and play. We will strive to empower the residents to improve housing, recreation, education, health and public safety, youth development and family strengthening, economic development, and community relations in the target area and its' surrounding neighborhoods.
